Home for Healing
A Biophilic Design Tour & Fundraiser
Join us at Home for Healing, an immersive self-guided home tour that showcases the transformative power of biophilic design—a design approach that connects people and place with nature. Our surroundings shape how we feel, think and interact. Biophilic design harnesses this connection by integrating natural elements into the built environment to foster well-being, creativity and a deeper sense of place. This special event is more than just an educational home tour—it’s a chance to give back to families in need.
The Home for Healing tour is more than just an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature-infused spaces—it’s a chance to give back to families in need. All proceeds from this event will support BC Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, two organizations that provide life-saving medical care and essential support to families facing childhood illness.
These organizations are deeply personal to Studio309 Design. When Jennell’s son was diagnosed with leukemia at just two years old, her family leaned heavily on the resources, housing, and care provided by these foundations.
Long before this experience, Jennell was part of the design team at Michael Green Architects, contributing to the biophilic design of Ronald McDonald House BC. At the time, she understood biophilic principles in theory—how natural light, open spaces, and connections to nature could support well-being—but had never stepped foot in the space herself. Years later, she walked through its front doors, not as a designer, but as a mother, navigating an unimaginable chapter in her family’s life.
Both BC Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House were thoughtfully designed with biophilic principles in mind. Experiencing these spaces firsthand reinforced Jennell’s advocacy for biophilic design and deepened her understanding of the profound impact a well-designed environment can have on healing and mental resilience.
It was a full-circle moment—one that reshaped her perspective on architecture and strengthened her commitment to creating spaces that not only function beautifully but also nurture the emotional and psychological well-being of those who inhabit them.
